World Population Problems
High growth rate of the population is one of the world population problems. In 1798, Thomas Malthus predicted that the world population was growing at an exponential growth rate. His worry was elicited by the fact that the world population would soon outgrow world food supplies leading to starvation, diseases, and wars.
Although his concerns came only when the world had 1.5 billion people, this population has grown to 6 billion and these problems are becoming more evident. High population growth has led to pressure on resources for survival leading to destruction of the environment especially in the third world countries. High growth rate of the population is important considering that the survival of the population depends on food supplies. There are a number of initiatives to increase supply of food resources to the match the growing population including modern agricultural techniques, genetically modified organisms, and others which increase food supplies
