Women and Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is one form of abuse that undermines the existence of equality between the partners in a relationship. It is a problem experienced in many families worldwide. Domestic violence is beyond the social class of individuals and it can happen to any family although the form of violence may vary. In the United States, domestic violence is a growing problem affecting many families.
Together with familial alcoholism, domestic violence has been rated as the leading factors of increased divorce in American families. However the trend in domestic violence depicts men against women showing that women are becoming the victims of domestic violence. They are increasingly abused by their male partners. Although there are various programs that have been instituted to deal with the problem, it is clear that the problem is growing and has changed its image from a societal issue to a gender based issue. This paper will review women and domestic violence. It will look into the way women have been abused by their male partners including the trend in domestic violence and a critical review of interventions.
