The word typography originated from a Greek words typos and grapho which mean form and write respectively. In this case, typography is the art and system of choosing and organizing type styles, point sizes, the length of lines in a sentence, the leading lines, and spacing characters as well as words for font applications. This study will address the concept of typography stating how it originated and in which civilization in the world. Additionally, this study will look at different kinds of typography or various uses of this art and technique of arranging characters. Additionally, the way people used and benefited from this art will be a core concept in this study. When it was established, typography developed into different stages. This study will outline all these stages stating how it was in the beginning and its current situation. Lastly, this study will describe what is represented by typography as well as its significance. In order to address these issues, this study will be guided by a thesis statement stated as; the development of typography was of great significance to both the ancient people and the current generation (Jubert & Lemoine, 2006).
