Tourism is one of the fastest developing sectors in the economy and a major contributor of the total global GDP value. Majority of countries and governments all over the world are taking tourism serious as they have realized the contribution it makes in development of their countries and changing the lives of the citizens. It is indubitable fact that tourism has indeed led to significant changes to the lives of many people in the world. However, most of researchers in the recent past have focused on how a country can place itself as a tourist destination in the world. This literature review examines and critique the arguments put forward by Tony S. M. Tse in his article ‘Does Tourism Change Our Lives?’ and Victor T. King in his article ‘Editorial’: Culture, Heritage and Tourism in Southeast Asia’.
