The concept of tier system is used to show the difference in level of criminal justice system in the United States. The tier system recognizes that criminal justice system is divided into different level, herein referred as tiers, with differing levels of jurisdiction and power. Different tiers also handle different criminals who have committed different types of crimes.  Broadly, the criminal justice system is divided into two tiers – federal and state. These tiers are further divided into different tiers.
