Description

The effect of Southern Unionism during the American civil war has received a great deal of attention from civil war scholars.  A number of recent publications have brought to surface the enigma forces that eventually led to defect of the confederacy, one of them is the anti-Confederate sentiments in the South. In his book, Freehling looks at the anti-Confederate sentiments among two groups – slaves and whites living in border states, all who made up half of southerners.
