In shaping United States history, there are different historical doctrines that have determined the relationship between United States and the world. From the Monroe doctrine that pursued the policy of isolation from the rest of the world, the other doctrine that have shaped United States foreign police was Reagan Doctrine which defined engagement with the rest of the world in face of rising competition with the Soviet Union. Regan Doctrine was a stepping stone to the modern sole super power status that is enjoyed by the United States. It was instrumental in shaping the relationship between United States and the rest of the world. Although Reagan Doctrine was meant to serve the self interest of United States, it had negative impact on the rest of the world as it almost divided the world into two leagues, one supporting United States and the other supporting Soviet Union.
