In this article, Myles and Quadgno review the changing nature of the political theories of the welfare states. The author uses secondary review of different studies to reach a conclusion to their issues of interest. The research focuses on assessing the viability of welfare states in the 21st century within the theoretical framework of the welfare states’ operations. This article is used in this research because it highlights the changing nature of welfare states within the 21st century and shows their viability within their operational theoretical framework. The main limitation of the article is that it relied on secondary data which may have errors which are carried over to the study. However, the article clearly shows that viability of a welfare state in the 21st century if theoretical tenets are closely followed. This article will form the basis of my research because it lays the foundation (theoretical background) for exploration of the issue.
