Recycling is the recovery/reuse of the usable materials particularly from waste. This involves, collecting, processing as well as the reuse of those materials that would be thrown. Some of the materials that could be recycled include plastics, newspapers, nuclear waste, chemicals, broken glass and precious metals. The process reclaims the material back to its original state. It is then used in new products. When recycled materials are used to make new products, it requires comparatively less energy and it costs less as compared to the use of new materials. The process has played a big role in reduction op pollution. This is done by minimizing the pollution which occurs in the process of manufacturing. This is also made possible by lowering the demand for those alternatives that are highly polluting. It reduces the amount of land required for dumping sites because the volume of the discarded waste is greatly reduced (Hartman, 2009).
