Race and My Community
For the time I have lived in this community, I find that racism is one of the most pressing issues in the community. There is no standard definition of the word race. It should be understood that race is social construct and cannot be scientifically proved. Scientist have found out that it is only two percent of the human genes that can be accounted for the difference in skin color which is used in most cases to differentiate races (Snustad and Simmons, 2006).
Racism has many faces including social class, religious group, and others. For example in some cultures, a person with a light skin living in the upper class may be considered as a white person while the same person living in occupying a lower class can be considered as a black.
