To demonstrate a sufficient grasp of research methods in order to undertake research projects independently.


In order to undertake an independent research project, it is important that you have a firm grasp on research methods and clear idea about the topic you will be pursuing. The coursework is designed to enable you to demonstrate your ability to conduct research, and develop knowledge in the area you intend to pursue.

The coursework has two assignment components: one is qualitative approach based research work and the other is quantitative approach based research work. Both the components should be undertaken individually.


In both the assignments you have to mention the aim, and follow a systematic approach to narrow it down. You have to further derive objective(s) of the research. You have to perform a detailed literature review using REFEREED JOURNAL ARTICLES ONLY that have addressed same/similar/related/partially the issues/challenges/advantages/problems/solutions you are dealing with, in your research. At least 10 articles that show a connection to your work should be cited in each assignment. Based on this literature review you need to demonstrate logically, what approach you are going to take and describe your methodology for applying and validating your approach, e.g. developing clear hypotheses. Then you analyse your primary data that you collect using one of the various data collection techniques, e.g. interview or questionnaires, get them presented and discussed. The report then reports the summary of analysis, findings, and some conclusions and recommendations.


As a guide your reports on both the assignments should include the following sections and address the following issues:

  1. Abstract
  2. Introduction (background, problem, aim, objectives, scope … etc)
  3. Literature Review
  4. Conceptual Framework
  5. Methodology: Prior to description of the methodology you need to describe, why that particular methodology was found most appropriate for your research.
  6. Data Analysis, Findings and Discussion
  7. Conclusions and Recommendations
  8. References
  9. Appendices if needed



Transformational leadership significantly affects service quality. Mostafa (516) has asserted that transformational improves the motivation, performance and morale of subjects or followers through a number of mechanisms. This is done by connecting the subjects’ sense of identity of the collective identity as well as the mission of the organization. In this case, the leader should act as a role model for the subjects in order to inspire them and challenge them to take greater ownership of their work. By understanding the strengths and weaknesses of the followers, the leader is able to align them with duties or tasks that optimize their performance.  According to a study that was conducted by Neves and Vinagre (87), employees are able to put a lot of efforts in the tasks assigned to them when they realize that their efforts are recognized by the leader. In this case, in a hospital setting the leader should ensure that he or she acts as a good role model for the employees by motivating them to perform better.
