Metaphors in Equus writing assignment

ANSWER

A friend of Peter Shaffer told him of a news story about a boy in London who blinded six horses at a stable apparently without cause. Intrigued, but not knowing the actual details leading to the boy’s uncharacteristic behavior, Shaffer wrote the play Equus (1973) in an attempt to create a mental scenario where the boy’s actions could possibly be understood. This play has won several accolades for the way it addresses many common questions people grapple with in the modern day. Among the themes that run through Equus are issues of religion and morality, purpose in life, the conflict between personal convictions and societal responsibilities, and importantly, the theme of oppression and the fight for freedom from this oppression.
