One of the most important factors in marketing is to position the product in order to compete effectively. Companies usually take different strategies which are aimed at a certain product to create competitive edge in the market.
Positioning strategies are meant to create a certain uniqueness of the product in the market which is considered beneficial to the target market. Positioning is therefore how the target market for a product defines it in relation to its competitors.
The most important factor that determines the positioning strategies to be used is the market environment. This will encompass the competing products and the consumer perception of the product. The attributes of the product and the market segment that it is aimed at are two important factors to consider when marketing. (Trout and Rivkin, 1996)
