The 21st century has been a great period; whereby significant developments have been witnessed across the globe. The developments have been in all aspects of human life which include; political, economic, technological, and social changes among others. Despite these achievements and developments in various corners of globe, Africa has always been dragging behind. Generally, Africa today and past has experienced devastating situations which has led to poor livelihoods of the people and more so the rural poor (Walle 78). Most of the issues affecting Africa today and past have been constantly highlighted by many writers and more specifically by Bessie Head in her book, “When Rain Clouds Gather”. This paper will focus on the backwardness and the devastating human environments in African and Botswana in specific (Walle 78).
