According to Spears (1996), the aspect of servant leader is generally defined as servant first. The natural feelings of serving are the basis of this theory. In this case, the aspirations of a servant to lead are brought about by the conscious choice. There is a great difference between the leader-first and the servant first. The former is brought about by the personal and self centered motives of being a leader while the latter is a feeling that originates from the conscious choice. This is because the aspect of the leader first emerges from the urge to acquire material through leadership while servant leader is the inner feelings of leading people which may be as a result of a talent (Spears, 1996).
