The concept of international relations has been of great concern in recent days. This has been significantly influenced by the aspects of globalizations and liberalizations of markets which have brought the world populations closer together. The development and realization of globalization has led to increased recognition of the various cultures and states of all corners of the globe; whereby the concept of international relations has come to being. In regard to these insights, international relations is the filed of study which deals with relationships between countries, which includes the role of the states, international nongovernmental organizations, intergovernmental organizations, multinational corporations among other institutions (Reus-smit 2001). With regards to international relations, it can either be categorized as normative or positive since both seeks to analyze as well as formulate the foreign policies. Precisely, the concept of institutionalism comprises different theories regarding international relations. These different theories dictate the nature of international relations and foreign policies. Structure/agency institutionalism and ideational institutionalism have been some of the key theories explaining the concept of international relations and policies. This paper will profoundly discus and analyze the concepts of structure/agency and ideational institutionalism (Reus-smit 2001).
