Human rights concept has evolved throughout the history of human kinds and it is closely tied to basic laws, customs, and religious beliefs. Although the Human Right Charters is believed to have codified universal human rights, there are earlier instance where human rights were recognized in law.
One of such instances is the Hammurabi law which was created by King Hammurabi about four hundred years ago in Sumerian. Although Hammurabi law may be considered as barbaric by modern standard, it was the first legal system that recognized human rights and protected individuals from arbitrary prosecution and punishment. During the earlier Greek civilization, human rights were recognized as a part of natural laws.
