As the world ushered in the 20th century, global news was also undergoing major transformation with entry of dominant world news channel that have influenced the social, economic, and politic views. During the 20th century, many communication scholars have in deed point out that the world was entering into an era of globalization where international news media would create global public sphere. In particular, cable news had wide reach and impact on the global political news as well as stetting standard in 24 hour reporting. The influence of the mass media and cable news has helped to create pragmatic news that defines how people perceive different regions and people in the world. However, instead of creating a global sphere, global news channels have created a plethora of ‘public sphericules’ in which people with same mindset communicate with people of similar mindset but they rarely engage with competing communicate spheres (Cottle & Ral, 2011). For a better part of the 20th century, global news have been monopolized by Western media and they influenced the world to create a similar mindset. However, the emergence of alternative news media like Al-Jazeera has created a competing sphere giving global viewers an alternative news media. This is likely to alter global news and creation of global public sphere in a great way.
