GEOPOLITICS VERSUS POLITICAL GEOGRAPHY
Geopolitics is the study of how factors like demography, economics and geography influence politics of a nation, particularly its foreign policy. It has to do with exercising political power over the given territory. It could also be termed as the study of geographical impact on the relations between nations. It is believed that military, economic and political features of a nation derive from the environmental influences and physical features. Focus is given to the political importance of geographic features like oceans and mountains. Political influence of the natural resources like oil, the human resources like population is also examined. It involves the study of social science, history and geography while referring to spatial politics as well as patterns right from the state level to the international level. Political geography on the other hand covers aspects of nation development, state, boundaries, country, international organizations, internal divisions, voting among others. It deals with the human social activities which are related to nations, groups of nations, boundaries of cities and locations.
