FITT is an acronym which stands for Fitness, Intensity, Time and Type. FITT is a principle developed by the American College of Sports Medicine as a guide to healthy physical fitness (Frank 2007).

The principle is intended to guide training programs in body fitness in three aspects of health. According to Sporting Excellence (2011) they are “cardiovascular fitness (cardio, muscular strength (weight lifting), and flexibility (stretching)” When incorporated in a training programme for professional soccer, the players’ performance is improved.

Sport training focus on two aspects of body physiology: cardiorespiratory wellness that aims at efficiency of blood circulation and breathing; and resistance/strength training aimed at muscular fitness.
