According to Bowen’s theory of family systems, which is basically grounded on human behavior, a family is regarded as an emotional unit that requires systems thinking to understand various interactions within such units (Bowen, 2010). In this regard, it is evident that one member of a family can greatly affect how other members in the same family feel, think and act. On the other hand, this family system recognizes the fact that in every family, due to emotional connection concept, every member normally acts, needs the attention, support and needs approval from his partner. In this regard, a change in ones behavior would signify an inverse change in other person’s behavior (Bowen, 2010). It therefore means that in every family, there are complex emotional connections such that emotions in one individual would greatly affect other members of the family. On this note, it can be seen that this family is facing emotional problem that are linked to a behavior exhibited by either of the family members. Therefore the treatment plan in this essay will employ the Cognitive-behavioral therapy orientation since it explains that human behaviors and beliefs are the most responsible elements in the development of the patient’s presenting problem (Kolmes, 2009).
