A family is the most basic unit of the society. A family plays an important role in the socialization process of an individual. The time that we spend in our family is precious moment in their own ways and therefore they should be cherished and utilized for our optimum growth.
A family does not serve only the purpose of socialization but it also provides a growth atmosphere for children. In the family set up, parents have the moral duty of providing for their children to ensure their optimum growth. Parents should therefore dedicate some of their time to spend with their children in order to guide them in the growth process. While reading an article by Kerpelman (2004) I wished my family was different and I wished our parents could dedicate some of their time to be with us.
Kerpelman argues that “teens often spend less time with parents and than they spend with other teens. Parent should no assume that their teens no longer need or want to spend time with them”. (Kerpelman 2004, p. 1)
