While the United States has been bulging under the pangs of economic crisis, issues regarding federal tax collection have become an alternative debate. The debate has pitied the current flat tax collection method used by the federal government and the fair tax method that was introduced by Congressman John Linder. Like any other political debate, this has elicited different ranging debate with opposing views on one side proponents and on the other side opponents.
Proponents argue that Fair Tax will be a relief to the low income earners and their families compared to the current method. They also argue that Fair Tax method will also stimulate export and retail business growth which will shield most Americans from the current massive job layoffs.
Fair Tax method will provide not tax breaks and no loopholes that will make tax collection most efficient. It will also reduce the escalating public cynicism regarding the current flat tax system which means it will restore the confidence of Americans on the ability of the government to collect and manage their taxes well. It has also been considered as a transparent method of taxation which is visible to the taxpayers since they can monitor how the collected taxes are being used.
