Ethical and Legal Issues in Group
Unit 9 is perhaps one of the most important units in this course, as it covers the legal and ethical guidelines of group counseling. Be sure to read the Association for Specialists in Group Work’s (ASGW) best practice guidelines.
This unit identifies and explores ethical guidelines that are specific to group counseling. Group counseling presents ethical issues not found in individual interventions with clients (e.g., the issue of confidentiality in groups, relationships between group members, and relationships between the group leader and group members).
This week will be the last week you will be required to attend your online support group. It will be important to gather your thoughts from the past eight weeks and reflect on how the process affected you. What did you learn about the online support group? What did you learn about yourself in the process of participation? Will you recommend this type of support group to others? Ask yourself these questions as you complete this unit.
To successfully complete this learning unit, you will be expected to:
1. Reflect on the experience of participating in an online self-help support group.
