Diamond is one of the precious metals in the world and its acquisition has lead to loss of millions of life in the world. Diamond exploitation has continued to fuel conflicts in most areas which are rich in the mineral. The developing world is always fighting unjustified wars which have been fueled by merchants seeking rough diamond. The unending conflict in Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and many other countries in the world have left a dent in the life of those people while it has topped up secret accounts stuffed in Swiss banks with money from illegal diamond trade. Despite the governments’ efforts to come to term with the rebel, the merchants who benefit from the trade always fund the rebels to continue fighting the government so that they can get a chance to export illegal diamond. Diamond conflicts are some the longest conflicts in Africa since the proceeds from the trade have been used to arm militias that continue the bloody fights. Whiles residents in these countries may be less concerned about the existence of the minerals on the soil they till hard everyday, most of them have gained a new statue of internal refuges in their country. Diamond conflicts already have devastated the life of many people and therefore it is the time the world woke up to end the cycles of violence related to the mineral.
