Development of fine and gross motor skills
According to Babycenter (2008) motor skills are skills that involve the movement of muscles in the body. These skills help in the coordination of different body parts to perform tasks. There are gross and fine motor skills. Gross motor skills are those skills that involve larger movements like movement of the arms, legs, feet, and the whole body movements. Gross motor skills are important in activities like crawling, running, jumping and others.
On the other hand, fine motor skills involves movement of small muscles which support smaller action like movement of fingers, toes, lips, tongue, and others Through an observation that observed two infants, assessing the development of gross and motor skills, I understood important pattern of development of gross and motor skills of an infant. Two male infants, one aged 4 months and the other aged 2 years were observed. Male infants were selected in order to minimize possible difference and bias on gender differences in the observation.
