Punishment is a form of reducing crime in society and hence the state of Georgia has enforced punishment of criminals under the criminal law. On this basis, this study examines the effectiveness of various objectives of punishment in the state of Georgia. Additionally, this study investigates on the various theories of punishment used in the reduction of recidivism and crime prevention. According to these theories, a criminal is supposed to be punished for the wrong done in order to discourage others from committing crimes in society. This study will examine the effectiveness of punishments imposed to criminals under criminal law justice. On this basis, this paper will be guided by a thesis statement stated as; the objectives of the enforcement of criminal law by punishment in the state of Georgia are successful.
