Validity in research applies to the appropriateness of the method chosen to the research question.  It indicates or assesses how sound the research is and whether it is going to give the expected results as applied to both methods and research design. In research, there is internal and external validity. Internal validity refers to validity in design and research instruments while external validity refers to validity in contest outside the research.
