  1. Background of the study

According to Zarate-Abbott et al. (2008) most of the health promotion strategies that are designed for majority of refuges populations are not effective. This could be attributed to the unique environmental, social, and cultural factors under which refugees live. When designing an appropriate health promotion strategy, there are different factors that should be considered including cultural and linguistic congruence, community-driven, strengths-based, partnership building, interactive promotion formats, and many others (Perez, 2002).  These factors differ among refugees from different countries and the way they are integrated determines the effectiveness of a health promotion strategy.
