Child Maltreatment

Maltreatment in children includes all types of neglect and abuse on children generally under the age of 18. According to CDC (2009), four types of abuse are prevalent among children. These include physical abuse, sexual, emotional abuse and general neglect. The issue of child abuse is of public concern especially considering the frequency with which such cases occur.

Child Maltreatment

The center for disease control records that 1,760 children died in 2007 in the United States alone due to neglect an abuse. A further 794, 000 were victims of maltreatment in the same year. The numbers could be much higher in other parts of the world considering that the United States is seen to have more rational parenting as compared to other parts of the world (CDC 2009). Analysts are in agreement that maltreatment produces dysfunctional effects on children development in all aspects of growth including physical, mental and cognitive. Psychologically, it produces stress and depression which interferes with the normal development of the child.
