According to Douglas (2010) an estimated 300 million are currently asthmatic. There has been an increase in the cases due to the adoption of western life style and being urbanized. According to the International Study of asthma and allergies in Childhood the prevalence rate is high in the English speaking countries and Latin America. However, the prevalence rate in the geographic regions such as Africa, Indian subcontinent and Eastern Mediterranean can be attributed to under-diagnosis. In general, the prevalence rates for acute asthma stands at 1.1% to 20.3% for children between 6 and 7 years. In UK clinicians treat 5million people for asthma. Indeed in 2006, more than a thousand deaths were attributed to asthma in UK alone. Of theses deaths 97% were adults.
