AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND HOMELESSNESS IN CALGARY
For a reasonable period of time, the city of Calgary has not been able to cope with the massive environmental and social challenges that confront it. Calgary is a sample of the short term cities. It has been established for short term reasons. It has been deigned to extract maximum profits within a short time. Little investment is made in the community and social infrastructure due to the lack of interest in the long-term problem solving. All that is focused on is the short-term gratification. City problems that are short-term for instance traffic congestion are solved are solved through the construction of new roads using the Band-Aid solution. A short-term city like Calgary can be termed as impatient (Smith, 2009). It has no long-term accumulated benefits. This is due to the reason that solutions that are geared towards solving urban problems are not engineered into the internal logic of the city. In the real sense, a long term city does not need so much addition of roads in trying to solve the traffic congestion problem because not so much auto-traffic is created by such a city.
