Xerox amid bankruptcy claims in the year 2000 due to piles of debt and mismanagement was able to motivate its employees and become a multi billon dollar corporation by 2010. Xerox management realized that the there is correlation between leadership style and employee motivation and productivity. Hence, Anne Mulcahy, the CEO at Xerox applied the principle that for effective customer satisfaction, the employees had first to be interested in their work. She therefore encouraged employees to first of all speak their mind, to be critical of the work environment and not to worry about hurt feelings. She also managed each employee differently, relating to them and avoided instances of intentional intimidation. As CEO, she encouraged employees to take risks, not to fear risks in order to get the work done. Moreover, employee motivation also encompassed informing her team of the priorities and intentions (Bauer & Erdogan, 2010, p. 142).
