Description

International Human Resource Management (IHRM) or global human resource management can be defined as the principles and practices of human resource management that are applicable in the global arena.  With the rise of globalization, organizations have been scaling their operations to global standards and this has paved way for the development of human resource management practices that fits into the global workforce arena.  Organizations are no longer local and human resource management is no longer local.  While IHRM uses the same principles as human resource management, there are key aspects that require to be considered in greater details including the global workforce and diversity, international context of management, national context, strategic international issues, operational issues, IRHM career, competencies, and many others (Pari, 2003).  An international human resource management no longer requires basic human resource skills but also require additional knowledge pertaining to the industry at the international level and diversity issues.  The basic function of international human resource management pertains to the fact that organizations must create a local appeal in the host market while at the same time maintain an international feel. Therefore, IHRM has three main objectives including creating a local appeal while maintaining the global identity, hiring staff from all geographical divisions and ensuring cross-cultural management of the workforce, and training on cultures and the sensitivities of the host country where the organization operates (Plessis & Huntley, 2009). This essay will analyze the political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental factors affecting IHRM and make appropriate recommendations.
