Differences between Health Inequalities and Disparities. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) (Benedict, 2011), health disparity is the difference in health status among different parts of the population in an area including dissimilarities that are as a result of race, ethnicity, education, income level, disability, gender, and residing in different geographical areas. Health inequality is therefore described as a situation where health care is not provided equally members of society because they have impartial accessibility to resources like clean air, education, and water or work in unhealthy conditions. In most cases, areas that are marginalized or poorly developed are mainly for the poor and because of poor development health facilities have not reached there. This in a nut shell result in health inequalities in a country where some areas are well served with public health services while others are not. The difference between disparities and inequalities therefore arises since in disparities occur not because of social disadvantages but because of differences in statuses. The African American individuals living in the American ghettos or slums face both disparities and inequalities because they are blacks and because they live in disadvantaged areas respectively.
