Alexander Hamilton. Born on 1755/1757, Alexander Hamilton is a man who overcame the greatest odds, among them impoverishment and illegitimacy, to become aide-de-camp to General Washington, secretary to the treasury, and general commander of the American army. The fact that a great man died out of the shots obtained from a challenged duel is somehow inglorious. Hamilton was born in Charlestown, Nevis in the West Indies to James Hamilton, a Scottish merchant of St. Christopher and Rachel Fawcett, the daughter of a French Huguenot physician. His parents were not married to each other.
Hamilton education was brief. He was educated early by his mother and by Presbyterian clergy man before being employed as a clerk in a general store at the age of 12. At this time he could speak French fluently.
historians will forever be fascinated by his streaks of jealousy, ambition, and impulsiveness that led him into disastrous personal clashes – an adulterous affair in 1791, run-in with Washington in 1781, assaults to Adams that ruined federalist prospects in 1800 and more so the duel with Burr that led to his death. His campaign for a strong central government that infringed on the right of citizen is also an item of study. In the political history of America, Hamilton ideas on economic, military, political, and democratic approaches will ever be mentioned. Alexander Hamilton.
