The issue of gender differences in mathematics performance has been highly contested. Many scholars and theorists have adequately contributed in the topic. In this case, there has been varying viewpoints concerning the performance gap between boys and girls in mathematics. Based on research, a significant disparity between men and women in mathematics has been identified. This concept has raised a lot of controversy concerning the authenticity of the assumption that boys perform better than women.

Herz (2004)depicted that there has been overwhelming stereotype concerning the gender disparities in performance between boys and girls into popular culture. This is the sole cause of boy’s better performance than girls. With these regards it is evident that boys and girls are equally the same in terms of mathematics performance (Herz, 2004).


Based on the discussions concerning gender differences in mathematical performances, different opinions have been provided. It has been very evident that there is overwhelming assumptions that boys are better in math than girls. Despite the statistical figures and biological explanations offered to support this assumption, it has been clearly evident that boys and girls are equal in math performance. A key point of consideration is that stereotyping concerning female inferiority has been the key factor contributing to the differences. In this case, both girls and boys are equal only if they are offered equal opportunities. These inferences challenge the assumptions that boys are better in math as compared to girls.
